How to Spot a Website Built with Durable

Updated October 15, 2026. 6 min read

Durable is an AI website builder aimed at small businesses: plumbers, cleaners, consultants, personal trainers. You type in a few details about the business and get a finished site with text, images and a layout in a couple of minutes. Here is how to recognize one, and what the label does and doesn't tell you.

Durable sites are easy to underestimate. They look clean, they load fast and they cover the basics. For a local business that needs a presence online today, that can be a perfectly reasonable choice. Spotting one simply tells you that the site was generated, which is a good reason to read the details a little more carefully.

How a Durable site gets made

The process explains most of the tells. According to Tooltester's hands-on review, you enter your project details and the AI produces a complete first version, with images and a layout roughly adapted to the business, in two or three minutes. The editor then works with pre-made section blocks rather than free layout, there are only a handful of templates, and each page is limited in how many sections it can hold. Free sites live on a .durable.site subdomain, and removing Durable branding is listed as a paid feature on Durable's pricing page.

Put together, that means many Durable sites share a recognizable structure, generated copy and generated or stock imagery, especially when the owner never went back to edit them.

The quick checks

A durable.site address

If the site lives at an address like your-business.durable.site, there is nothing more to investigate. That is Durable's free hosting.

Durable branding

Scroll to the footer. Sites that haven't paid to remove the branding may mention Durable there. Paid sites can remove it, so its absence means little.

The source code check

This is where most Durable sites on custom domains give themselves away. Open the page source with Ctrl+U (Cmd+Option+U on a Mac) and search for durable.

One thing we learned while building our checker: the switch from durable.co to durable.com broke our first detection rule, which only looked for the old domain. If you use a browser extension or script to spot builders, make sure it knows about both.

As with any builder, only count a match that appears in the site's own code, such as an image address or a script. A blog post reviewing Durable, or a link to its homepage, will mention the name too.

The softer signs

These won't prove anything alone, but they are typical of a site that was generated and published without much editing.

The same skeleton as a hundred other local businesses

A large hero image with a one-line promise, a short "About us", a grid of services, a testimonials strip and a contact form. Navigation that is only one level deep. If you have looked at several Durable sites, the rhythm becomes familiar quickly.

Copy that could describe any business in the category

Generated text tends to describe what a business of this type usually does, not what this particular business did last week. Look for specifics: named team members, real project photos, prices, service areas listed street by street, licences with numbers you can verify. Their absence is not proof of anything, but their presence is a strong sign that a human has worked on the site.

Images that look a little too perfect

Durable can generate images, and many sites also use stock photos. Neither is a problem in itself. It becomes a signal when a business that sells hands-on work, such as renovations, cleaning or landscaping, shows no photo of its own work at all.

A short site on a young domain

Most Durable sites in our test set had somewhere between a handful and a few dozen pages, often on domains registered within the last few years. That profile fits countless small business sites built by people too, so treat it as context.

What a Durable fingerprint means for the score

When Bot or Built finds a Durable fingerprint in a site's code, it places the site at "Mostly bot" or higher, because the site's structure and first draft were generated by AI. In our calibration on 100 real websites, this was one of the most reliable signals we had: every site where we found cdn.durable.com or a Durable reference in the code was confirmed as a Durable site by independent technology trackers.

What the fingerprint can't tell you is how much the owner rewrote afterwards. Some Durable sites are generated drafts published as is. Others have been edited line by line by a business owner who knows their trade. The builder is a starting point. The content is where you find out who is behind it.
